The characters called him 'he,' but I don''t think they really knew so they used a generic 'he.' I'm not sure the vorlons really had genders. And I believe his name was Kosh.

For all we know, they reproduce by budding, or just spliting like ameobas. As a matter of fact, there could be justification for the notion of splitting for reproduction. The line "We are all kosh" would make sense if each organism splits, duplicating even memories from the original.

When you think of aliens, you really gotta think "alien" and not just humans with bumpy forheads.

What was it Lorien said, about as being one of the First Ones, and having lived so long, they knew that love was a transitory illusion?

And that we, as the flashes in the pan that we are, can believe utterly in true love eternal, which may be the greatest gift we have.

Sorry, but Kosh says that about the Narn and the Centari in the first episode "Midnight on the Firing Line"

Kosh: "They are alone. They are a dying people. We should let them pass."
Sinclair: "Who, the Narn or the Centauri?"
                Kosh: "Yes."

It was a him. On an extra note I'm reading the original scripts that JMS is putting out. As a side note from there, Kosh was originally suppposed to have a female mate on B5 with him.
